Planning my summer break is always a fun one for me. I love making plans to better myself and my career prospects while my studies have died down and I have a lot of free time. For the past few years, I have taken on shifts at my various part-time jobs and got together some savings for the following academic year. However, this year I decided to mix it up a bit! I have a list of parts of my life that I want to work on and I have already made plans for all of them.

The Internship

I have decided to take on a full-time internship in my university marketing department, to gain some experience more relevant to my career goals. I am in the middle of my first week and I am loving it! Getting into the office before 9 took some getting used to but I can already feel it becoming routine! I am so relieved that I have the opportunity to get creative and I can't wait to see how this internship progresses. Plus, it's paid so I can really get my savings together for rent next year!

The Part-Time Job

I am continuing my weekend job over the summer even though I am working a paid internship 5 days a week. This is because I need to keep my job in the next academic year and I can't just quit and reapply. It is nice to go there for a few hours a day at the weekend and see everybody though. I do love the team I work with! It's also contributing to my savings, which I really need to have for next year!

The Online Learning

As always, I am picking up some extra subjects to study on OpenLearn over the summer. They are related to business and marketing this year as I am studying them to accompany my internship and my aims to get into marketing. I love getting the time to pick up these extra courses!

The Move

I moved house! Well, I moved from my student house to a lovely little flat. It's so nice to have my own space and i'm even a little bit closer to uni and the shops! I have bought new kitchen stuff and almost fully unpacked and it already feels like home! I have also met a couple of the neighbours and they all seem so nice! I am mentioning this in the post because moving to this flat is something I have wanted to do for so long and something I have been counting down the days to. I have been so stuck in a rut with my physical and mental health and moving into this nicer space has really had an impact on me! I have been eating well and exercising at home and I have even started journalling again. My mental health is so improved already!

The Gym

Thanks to the internship and my ongoing weekend job, I can finally afford to join the gym! I am so fed up of feeling groggy and unhealthy and figured this summer is the perfect opportunity to get active and get to the gym! Plus, I'm going into my final year as a student so I've got to make the most of my student gym discount! I'm going to start at a gym with a pool so I can also get back into swimming. I can't wait!

The Habits

I have developed some nasty habits over the past year that I really need to curb. Smoking is a big one that I need to quit, and I need to get my eating under control as I binge eat so much when I'm sad, lonely or bored! I have already begun to work on my sleep hygiene and my ability to wake up in the morning has already improved so much!

The University Preparation

Getting all my habits and routines sorted means that i'm as ready as I can be for third year. It's going to be tough and busy so it's good to take the time now to work on my personal development! I am hoping to read more development books, pick up more tips and ideas, and really pull myself together.

Relax!

The best way to prepare for the next year of university is to take some time to chill out! I'm going to take a couple days off to spend time with friends and I have already taken some time at home to spend some time with my family. I enjoy keeping busy but sometimes you just need to relax and take some time off!

How are you spending your summer?x

Monday, 14 May 2018

It's back! My weekly diary posts are starting up again after some time off! I feel like since I stopped writing these I've felt less aware of what I've accomplished each week and less motivated to do anything! Time for some changes around here! Ready to join me?

Monday

  • It's a bank holiday, which means having to pick up an extra shift at my retail job. I was given the afternoon shift, which meant having some time before work to do some assignment writing!
  • I did a lot of my uni work from bed before hopping in the shower and getting ready for work.
  • It's such a hot day today so I managed to find a skirt which was appropriate for work and I picked up an iced coffee on my way in. Gotta get that caffeine!
  • Nothing much to report from work, it was too warm and pretty busy. When it came to closing time, I was super tired and sat out in Picadilly Gardens for a while before heading home on the bus.
  • Not the most interesting day to kickstart my PYT posts again but that's just the way these things go!

Tuesday

  • I got up at a fairly reasonable time today and went to uni to get some assignment writing done. This is after I took some product blog pics in my pyjamas for the post since the lighting was coming through my window beautifully and I use my bed for the backdrop of a lot of my pics since I don't have a lot of space in my student room.
  • Before I started my assignment in uni, I finalised a blog post and spent some time promoting it and scheduling some tweets before getting on with the work!
  • I left uni a bit earlier than planned and had to skip an event I was really excited for because I started to feel unwell and just wanted to get home and have a lie-down.
  • I spent the evening preparing for the internship interview which I have tomorrow. I am so hopeful for this interview since it's the summer internship which I have felt most drawn to out of all the internships I have looked at. Since I want to go into marketing after my degree, it is the perfect opportunity and I want it so badly. It's also paid which means that if I get it then I can definitely afford all my rent over the summer and also get some savings together! Fingers crossed!

Wednesday

  • I got up, showered and got dressed up for my internship interview. It was so nerve-racking and I had trouble finding the building where the interview was held. Typical me! When I got to the interview, I realised that I had met one of the two interviewers before and she immediately recognised. I felt like I really clicked with both the interviewers and we got along well. They were both so friendly and it really put me at ease! I felt like we were on the same page about everything we discussed and I even showed them some of my previous relevant work. I may have blundered a few times in the interview but I think it went better than I had expected!
  • I immediately met with some friends in uni, ate a wonderful toastie and got some more of my work done! We all decided to hop on the bus and head into town for a bit of chill time.
  • I picked up some lovely goodies from Primark, Monki, Home Sense and Lush before we headed home.
  • I lit a lavender and sage candle which I had bought from Home Sense and it really filled my room with a calming aroma. I managed to get a lot of my work done this evening. Enough to lead me to believe that I will finish my two last assignments of the year by tomorrow evening!
  • I read a bit of How To Stop Time by Matt Haig in bed and now I'm ready to turn the lights out and get a good night's sleep!

Thursday

  • Another day of going to uni early to get work done!
  • While I was writing my assignment, I received a phone call to tell me that I have got the internship which I interviewed for yesterday!! I'm so excited! It means that I can afford my rent this summer and that I can get some great experience in marketing!
  • I managed to get loads of work done in uni and also attended a seminar where my group work project was displayed! All in all, a productive time in uni!
  • I then headed home with a friend to catch up on Riverdale, which was so good! We were yelling at the screen!
  • I finished both of my last assignments of the year and got into bed at a decent time!

Friday

  • I submitted my final two assignments after a quick proofread!!
  • It's payday which means a trip to Wetherspoons with the workmates. We got there fairly early for food and had a couple of drinks into the evening. I have not laughed this much in so long! We had such a good time!
  • While I was in town to meet my friends, I managed to pick up a few essentials from Lush to restock my shelf.
  • That's about it really, I was super tired after this week so I headed home early and I am so ready to sleep!

Saturday

  • Not the most exciting day!
  • I cleaned the kitchen and bathrooms before getting ready and going to work for the afternoon/evening shift.
  • I got home at a reasonable time and I just finished watching a documentary so it's time for bed!

Sunday

  • Today was a bit more interesting than yesterday! I worked the early shift so I had the afternoon free after work!
  • A couple of friends and I went to Pizza Hut after work and then to the shops! I stocked up on Pixi Glow Tonic and bought a lovely new bra!
  • Once I got home, I spent the evening catching up on YouTube videos and reading. It's been lovely!

What a busy week! How was your week? x

Friday, 4 May 2018

I miss my weekly diary posts! It felt good to write everything down and put it out there. Like throwing my personal life out there and getting it off my chest and out of my mind! I may start up the Pull Yourself Together posts again soon but for now, I just want to talk about everything significant that's going on at the moment. Full disclosure. Holding nothing back!

Right now in this moment

My chest feels a bit heavy. I'm trying to pick myself up from a down day. I am a fully hormonal and emotional wreck at the moment and I've nearly cried more times than I can count today! I have been suppressing a lot of negative feelings for a while now and I feel like they are spilling over. My counsellor isn't free for a session until the end of the month and I am sick and tired of going to the GP so often lately, even though my GP is lovely and a total angel! I don't know if I want to speak about everything with friends either. We all have so much going on and I don't want to add to their heaps of troubles! The thing is, in the past few months I have become a sharer. I used to bottle everything up but in the past few months, I have done the opposite. I have almost become reliant on sharing everything with others and now that I don't feel like I should do that, it's becoming really hard to keep stable.

University

My grades dropped this semester. No matter how hard I have tried to write excellent assignments, it just hasn't been quite good enough. It's almost making me give up. When I got low, I didn't go to my lectures either, which has caused me to fall completely behind with university when exams are looming overhead. I'm not sure if I can pull everything together in time. I'm trying to go back to the way I was in first year, when I was getting great marks in my assignments and studying with intense motivation, but I am just so tired. It's stressing me out so much that I am smoking again. Not great!

Health

Aside from my mental health, my physical health has also been up and down. I started having fortnightly periods. One week on, one week off, one week on, etc. Yeah, that's not ideal. They were also escalating in severity to the point where they are now as bad as they were in high school, before my prescription period medication and being on the pill. After a few weeks of tests to see what has been up with me lately, I finally got diagnosed with PCOS. I have known that I have this for a few years but in my hometown, my GP never took me seriously when I asked about it. However, my GP here has been so helpful and when I mentioned it and talked through my symptoms, he booked me straight in for an ultrasound. Goodness, PCOS gives me so many answers for things I have been experiencing for years. So many things which have been dismissed when I have tried to talk about them! I have also been super ill for the past week with a sinus infection. Not the greatest of times!

Good things

I realise now that a lot of what I have just written is all doom and gloom. There have been some good things! However, as you may know, memories are emotional things and we tend to remember events better if they evoke very strong emotions. That's why we remember all the bad stuff easier. It's just the way we're wired. However, I'm gonna rack my brains for some good stuff! I managed to go home and see my family a couple of weekends ago! It's my favourite! I saw my grandparents, cousins, parents and my lil teenage brother. I started using OpenLearn again to pick up short courses for free which is fun and interesting! I also got some great blogging opportunities which I loved being a part of, including being sent some lovely goodies from Simply Soaps which are a couple of my new faves! I also just ate the biggest and nicest piece of cake in the world from Manchester Museum. White chocolate and poppyseed cake, what a beauty!

When I was writing the PYT posts weekly, it was easier to keep track of the good stuff going on in my life and it pushed me to get out of bed and do more, so I could blog about it and share the experience. I think it's time to bring those posts back, are you ready?? x

Pull Yourself Together #14 coming Monday 14th May...

Tuesday, 27 February 2018

Another week, another Pull Yourself Together post! Hope you enjoy! x

Monday
  • Today is just a typical Monday! I'm going to uni, doing some work and I have a meeting! I feel a bit crap so I decided to put on some nice makeup and a nice outfit to make myself feel a bit more pulled together!
  • I got quite a bit of work done, posted last week's Pull Yourself Together post and now I've got a meeting with some friends i'm doing some peer support work with next academic year!
  • The meeting was super productive and we all sorted our roles within the scheme and set some plans in place! I am looking forward to seeing how this all works out!
  • Chloe and I decided to get some food together so we headed over to Wetherspoons for some nice grub!
  • After spoons, Chloe and I had a quick trip to Superdrug and then I headed home to do some work before bed!

Tuesday
  • Busy busy day ahead! I'm heading to uni to do some work and then i'm helping out my psychology peer mentor scheme with a lab support session.
  • The support session went well and the first years seemed to be engaged and asked a few questions. After the event, I met with a friend and a lecturer to talk about the psychology peer mentor scheme and then had a very quick lunch.
  • I had a careers meeting with one of the psychology careers advisors and talked a bit about paid internships for the summer. I am desperate for an internship this summer and the meeting really helped!
  • After the careers meeting, I went to a networking event held by the university in which alumni who work in media were invited to talk and network with students. It was super interesting and I got to meet some very interesting people!
  • After the event, I hopped onto a bus into town and had a small dinner in Starbucks, before meeting up with a couple of friends in Byron for a milkshake.
  • We met with some more friends and went to see Black Panther. It was incredible and definitely a new favourite film!
  • After the film, we went home and had a couple of drinks before bed.

Wednesday
  • Early start this morning for a doctors appointment! I need to get some things sorted because my mental health is not the best again and I don't want to fall back into the way I was a few months ago.
  • The appointment went well and i'm now in Anchor Coffee House doing a bit of work and eating a lovely bagel! My favourite! I've come up with a couple of post ideas and started a post about free online learning because I know some good sites and want to share them with as many people as possible so everyone gets the chance to try them out!
  • After a couple of hours at Anchor, I got a bit restless so I headed over to the Whitworth Art Gallery to do some reading. It was a lovely change of scenery and i'm loving my current book!

  • I then headed over to university for the most exciting part of the day! I have been helping a society to put together a mentoring scheme and we had our first training session this afternoon/evening!
  • The training went so well and I am over the moon! Everything about this scheme is coming together and I love it!
  • After the training, I got a call from Chloe and our friend and they got me to meet them in town for Pizza Hut!! It was so good (even though those two argue so much) and I ended up so full and happy!
  • Once I got home, I just did some work in bed!

Thursday
  • Not a very busy day here for once! Just heading to uni as usual to do a bit of work, then I have a seminar and then back to do some work! Meeting with a friend later but not sure what we'll get up to! The uni strikes begin today so I have no lectures to go to, which gives me some time to catch up on work.
  • The seminar went well, we got to choose our groups for some group work, and now i'm just waiting for my friend! We have decided to go see Black Panther and i'm so excited to see it again!
  • We got dinner at Wetherspoons and the saw the movie, which was just as good the second time around! I am obsessed! After that, I rushed home in the dark because I get a bit anxious walking home at night and it was very late! I pretty much went straight to bed!

Friday
  • Not much to do today! Just a couple of workshops and some laundry!
  • I posted my Free Learning post and it is already getting a lot more views than my usual content! I am so excited that people are finding it helpful!
  • My first workshop was on reflective writing and it was super helpful for one of my upcoming assignments. Plus, they had free drinks and biscuits which was great.
  • I went over to the psychology building for lunch and to do some work and then back to the learning commons for another workshop, which was a silent working drop-in for productivity. I got loads done and drank lots of hot chocolate!
  • Once out of the workshop, I rushed home and got my laundry done. I also tidied my room and had a spring clean and now i'm just going to watch a movie in bed!

Saturday
  • Having a super great lazy morning! I'm going to get up late, do a hair mask, do a face mask, have a shower and then get ready for work! Having a mostly offline and off-screen day so I may not update until later!
  • This morning was wonderful! It was so good to just be lazy! On my way to work now but i'm feeling very relaxed and prepared for the evening at work!
  • After work, a friend and I went to Nandos for dinner! It was so good! I then rushed home and got straight into bed!

Sunday
  • Such an exciting day! I have work and then i'm seeing my family! They're dropping off my mail and taking me grocery shopping! The best kind of shopping! Then, Will's home after a week away!
  • Before work, I had some coffee and breakfast in Starbucks and did an hour of work. It was so lovely and peaceful! I love being in town early on a Sunday morning because it's just so quiet!
  • Work was super quiet and went slowly but it was alright! I was on shift with good friends and one was very hungover so we teased him quite a bit!
  • Seeing my family was so lovely! We met in town and did a bit of shopping, which was great because they took me to ASDA in their car so I could pick up more food than usual because I usually have to carry it all the way home!
  • Once home, I put all my food away and tidied my room before Will came over. We drank prosecco, ate cake and watched a few episodes of Ashes To Ashes before having an early night. It was wonderful!
I hope you all had a lovely week and I will be back again next week with another Pull Yourself Together post!! (But also on Wednesday and Friday with my usual posts)! x

Monday, 19 February 2018

Monday
  • Early start for a morning lecture! It was a pretty dull one but I managed to get some good notes done!
  • I went straight to the psych building cafe after the lecture to get some work and admin done! I had a really productive few hours!
  • I managed to edit and post last week's Pull Yourself Together post and promote that on social media in between my uni tasks!
  • I had a very productive meeting with a friend about setting up a mental health mentor scheme in uni and then met Chloe and took the bus to town
  • I picked up some second-hand Xbox games and grabbed some food before heading home for a house movie night!
  • We all ordered food and watched Howl's Moving Castle. I had a 20-minute nap in the middle of the film but it was a great night!
  • Once the film was over, I headed up to my room and played Arkham Asylum until I was too tired to keep my eyes open

Tuesday
  • I had a quick shower and headed to uni in my comfy new Marilyn Manson hoodie and some leggings. Extreme comfort! On my way, I had a good chat on the phone with my grandad which was lovely!
  • I did some work in the psych building cafe and then headed to my seminar in the rain. I sat by the window on the 4th floor because we're across from Whitworth Hall and Manchester Museum which is a pretty lovely view
  • I am so tired and because of my intensive mindfulness course, i'm not leaving uni until 8pm. Probably going to fall asleep as soon as we go into a relaxing practice
  • Successfully conducted my interview for my latest lab class, and I just need to transcribe it all by Thursday, which shouldn't be too bad
  • I ended up flying through the transcription process and managed to get it all done straight after the interview itself! I will reward myself with a bit of reading before getting back to my lecture catch-up
  • I read the whole of We Should All Be Feminists by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, which was really thought-provoking and well written!
  • My mindfulness class flew by and I went straight home to play Fallout 3 before bed!

Wednesday
  • Valentine's day! Today is the first time I am not single on Valentine's day and i'm so excited! Will won't tell me where we're going later though!
  • I had a day at home just doing some writing and working from bed before glamming myself up for the night! I wore my striped jumpsuit from Primark and looked GREAT!
  • He turned up at my door with a bunch of roses and some chocolates, which was so sweet! We went to Zizzi for Italian food and then Harvey Nichols bar for prosecco! It was such a wonderful evening and I felt so so lucky and spoilt!

Thursday
  • I got up bright and early to walk to uni with a couple of lovely friends! We stopped off at Costa and then I headed to the psychology building to set up a bake sale, which I helped run for the psychology peer mentors scheme!
  • The bake sale table looked amazing and so many mentors offered us cakes and treats to sell! Running the bake sale was so much fun too, even though I was pretty hungover!
  • After helping with the bake sale, I headed to a lab class and then home with a friend to hang out! There wasn't an episode of Riverdale so we watched drag queen videos!
  • After my friend had left, I got an email about the bake sale. Apparently, we raised way more than expected which is amazing!
  • The evening was a bit grim. I had a bit of a meltdown which came out of nowhere. Vowing to go back to the doctors next week to sort myself out!

Friday
  • Grabbed a toastie from Costa for breakfast thing morning as a payday treat! I went to the usual spot to get some work and emails done and then went for an Open Mind Writers meeting, which was super productive!
  • After the meeting, I grabbed another coffee with a friend and chilled for a while before meeting with my favourite lecturer for a chat
  • I then went over to the SU to chat with the lovely Women's Officer, who is always so great to chat to! What an angel! After saying goodbye, I headed into town for some much needed solitary shopping time! I popped into work to see a friend who has switched to weekday shifts and we had a quick catch up which was lovely!
  • I spent most of my time in town in a bit of a daze. I wasn't really paying attention to where I was going and I was kind of just living in my own head! Eventually, I snapped out of it and picked up a few bits and pieces from Lush before heading home to meet Will and chill out for the evening!

Saturday
  • Woke up early for my volunteering induction, which was at a community garden. It went really well and they even had a dog there!
  • Will and I took advantage of being out so early and went for a long walk, before heading to Wetherspoons for some lunch!
  • I went into town and met up with a work friend and we spent too much money as always! Picked up a few goodies from Kiko and a new bra on sale at Ann Summers

  • Work was fairly uneventful and then Will picked me up for a pint and a pizza, which was lovely!

Sunday
  • Early morning for work! I grabbed a quick snack before work and a lot of coffee to deal with the event that the store is putting on this morning! Too many customers too early in the morning!
  • Work dragged so much but I ran back in to buy some new pyjamas anyway! I then got a free Krispy Kreme doughnut and some lunch from M&S before heading home
  • I had the most chilled afternoon ever! I put on my new pyjamas and did nothing but play LEGO Star Wars until sleep! The best!

Monday, 12 February 2018

Monday

  • Will woke me up at 6am when he left to go to work! I went straight back to sleep, slept through my alarms, and overslept til noon. Not a great start!
  • I felt pretty low and so didn't get out of bed for quite a while. I eventually decided to give up on the idea of leaving the house and decided to act as if it was still the morning and that I was just starting the day
  • I put in a hair mask and went through some emails to give myself a slow start to the day
  • I finally decided to leave my room at about 2pm to put some laundry in the washing machine and shower
  • After my shower, I put on some freshly washed pyjamas and changed my bedsheets in an attempt to make my surroundings feel refreshed. However, I ended up just getting back into bed and staring at the ceiling for about an hour. I won't go into the feelings that I was experiencing, they weren't very good though, unfortunately
  • I attempted to do a bit of work but ended up giving up and having a little healthy cry
  • I got my clothes out of the dryer and ordered a pizza
  • Once my flatmates got home, I spent a bit of time with them as they tend to make me feel a lil better! My lovely friend dyed my hair darker while we watched Moana
  • I went to bed and binge-watched Black Mirror before bed

Tuesday
  • After a pretty crappy day yesterday, I decided to get up a little bit early and to put some makeup on in order to boost my confidence a bit
  • I went into uni early to help run an event to help first years with their statistics assignments
  • After the workshop, I went straight to the psychology building cafe to do some work
  • My lovely friend and I then went to a workshop on 'Finding Motivation' and I worked out some truths about how I motivate myself and how I am growing as a person. I used to be very extrinsically motivated and I would only work hard in order to impress and please others. However, now I work with passion and my future career in mind
  • I went back to the psychology building cafe and did some writing. I edited and posted last week's Pull Yourself Together post
  • I went to my weekly mindfulness class, which went really well even though I fell asleep during practice. It made me realise how tired I really am!
  • I did a food shop on the way home and made an omelette when I got home
  • I queued up a couple posts for the rest of the week and then went up to bed

Wednesday
  • Left for university early this morning to give me time to grab a coffee! This is going to become my daily routine as it means that I am not rushing to uni and I get to enjoy my morning coffee a bit more!
  • I had an interesting forensic psychology lecture and then went to the psychology cafe to work with my lovely friend. I also had a meeting with my favourite lecturer and we had a great chat about writing and mental health!
  • I got to do a bit of admin and email organisation before going to a low mood therapy group
  • This week, I facilitated the group! It was a bit of a last minute thing but I ended up doing super well and I ended up receiving some thank-yous and a boost of confidence to facilitate more! I can't believe how well it went!
  • I then had a meeting at 6pm with Open Mind Manchester. I am a part of the external committee and we were laying down plans for the next few months. The meeting was super productive and I've completely blocked my schedule for the next month or so with work and volunteering!
  • On the way back from the meeting, which finished at about 8, I bought a meal deal and ate it in bed when I got home. I finished organising my emails and sorted all my bookmarks on my laptop

Thursday
  • Started the day by going to the psych building cafe to load up on caffeine before my seminar. I had a seminar on essay writing and then a really useful lab class
  • After the lab, I sat in the psychology building cafe and had a public cry for the first time in a while. I was a bit of an emotional mess but luckily not many people were around. Chloe went to the building next door for a while and then came back with a large latte for me because the psych building coffee machine was broken and she's an angel!
  • My Open Mind Manchester article was published! I have already received such a great response and people who haven't talked to me in ages have got in touch and been so supportive!
  • On the way home, I met up with my friend and we went back to mine for our weekly Riverdale viewing! The latest episode was so good and I hate that we have to wait another week for the next one!
  • After my friend had gone, the housemates and I had a bit of a drink, which turned into a lot of drinking and me doing some drunk online shopping (oops). Thankfully, I didn't go too overboard and I can't wait for my new Marilyn Manson hoodie to arrive!

Friday
  • I overslept AGAIN! Instead of beating myself up about it, I decided to get some work done at home so I caught up on some lectures and put on a hair mask and face mask
  • After doing some work, I had a shower, got dressed, and cleaned and mopped the kitchen
  • My lovely friend got home and we made dinner together and had a good chat!
  • Will came over and we went though some recipe books and planned out what we will be cooking together and baking together since he's a great cook and i'm pretty good at baking! We had a pretty early night which was lovely!

Saturday
  • Started the day by doing some work in bed, before getting up, getting dressed and doing my hair
  • A couple of friends and I went for brunch at The Anchor, which was amazing! I ate two brownies and a cream cheese bagel, and had two wonderful coffees!
  • After brunch, I hopped on the bus to town and managed to get a bit of shopping done before work! I picked up some flared trousers from Mango, some Pusheen stickers and a notebook from Paperchase, a couple of books from Waterstones, and a hair mask from Lush
  • Work was pretty slow and seemed to last forever! On the way home I ordered some food and ate that on my lovely friend's floor before we watched Mune, which was a lovely animated film!

Sunday
  • I have been waiting for this day all week! After a short shift, I am seeing my family for the first time since the Christmas break and they're meeting Will! Plus, my brother is giving me his old Xbox 360 and I am so excited!
  • On the way to work, I grabbed a cappuccino from Starbucks and chilled in the cafeteria with my good work friend! Work was so slow and, again, seemed to last forever!
  • Lunch with the family was so good! I met Will outside work and then we went to meet my family. It was so good seeing them again and they all got along super well with Will! We had a great lunch and a great chat! My dad had read my Open Mind article and had found it really interesting and was proud of me! I swear when he was talking about it and describing how it made him feel I could have cried! He told me that the optimism that I was putting across about recovery really broke the stigma for him and he understood mental health struggles more than he ever has!
  • Once we got home, Will and I set up the Xbox and played Lego Star Wars for HOURS! It made me so nostalgic and it was so fun! He ordered Indian food and we ate most of it while chatting with a couple of my housemates and then we were in bed and asleep before 9:30! Such an early night is unheard of for us!

In all, this week has been such a mix of emotions! My mental health has been so up and down but when looking back, I can see quite a few highs and achievements! I think reading and writing these weekly diaries is really helping me to see what I am doing right, instead of focussing on the lows! Thank you for reading! x

Time for another Pull Yourself Together post! I have decided to stick with the bullet point format after some positive feedback and due to how much easier it is to put together!

Monday

  • Woke up at 6am because William had to get up for work! Too early, kill me. I couldn't get back to sleep so I did my makeup nice for my first day of semester 2!
  • I had a morning Individual Differences lecture and then a Forensic Psychology lecture straight afterwards. I somehow managed to find time to get coffee between them which was such a relief since i'm a caffeine fiend who gets grumpy and headachey when I don't have any coffee. I should probably sort that addiction out but who has the time??
  • I went to the cafe in uni for lunch and had a very productive couple of hours! I tend to get so much done there!
  • I went to a meeting for some of my volunteering and then grabbed a burrito in the student union for dinner since I had a meeting there afterwards for another project i'm volunteering for.
  • My volunteering meeting was super productive and i'm so ready to do more work on this project!
  • I went home and straight to bed! I was super tired and needed an early night!

Tuesday
  • I overslept so I had a late start! Annoyed but at least I didn't miss any uni stuff as my only lecture is in the afternoon!
  • I made the most of being at home in the daylight so I took some lovely blog pics!
  • I attended an introductory lecture on my Leadership in Action uni unit and i'm so excited for this unit! It seems so interesting and really my cup of tea! I chatted to the course lead after the lecture and she emailed me with some information on related internships which I could do over the summer!
  • I went back to the study cafe to do some work and I focussed on creating posters for my peer support role! I have been using Canva to do this and I love it!
  • I had my first CBT Mindfulness session and I loved it! Everyone was super inviting and I enjoyed the practices so much!
  • Quickly did a food shop and got some veggies to make some good omelettes! I want to get back into home cooking and I figured omelettes would be a good start since I used to be the omelette queen!
  • I finished the evening by playing Sims on my lovely friend's floor.
Wednesday
  • Started the day with a super interesting forensic psychology lecture which was super nice! My friends and I left the house early to get coffee and food before the lecture which was such a great idea.
  • I put up a new post! I posted a lil post-exam haul which a friend asked me to do! You can read that HERE (a lil self-promo)!

  • As always, I sat in the uni cafe and did some work! My days are pretty repetitive at the moment!
  • Once I got home I had a bit of a hangout and admin evening with my lovely friend before going upstairs and doing some work on my online unit. I made eggs and veg for dinner and then read in bed until I got too drowsy and fell asleep!

Thursday
  • Started the day bright and early with a cognitive neuroscience lecture! I really enjoyed it and went straight to the library afterwards to pick up the textbook! After this, I went back to the psychology building cafe (what a surprise) and did some peer support work until my workshop which I had booked with a friend!
  • The workshop was focussed on challenging unhelpful thinking habits and it was super insightful! After the workshop, I had a lab class.
  • I had to leave the lab class early in order to get to a meeting with my academic advisor. The meeting was nice and I got to update her on how well I have been doing mentally and we mapped out some plans for the future
  • After the meeting, I met my friend (who is also my future flatmate) for our weekly Riverdale viewing! I really enjoyed the episode and hate the fact that I have to wait another week for the next one!
  • It was date night so I got changed into some nice clothes and put on some makeup and then Will called a taxi and we headed into town! We got some dinner at Frankie & Benny's and then watched The Darkest Hour, which was absolutely incredible! Gary Oldman is unbelievably good in his role as Churchill! Will dropped me off at home and I got to hang out with my housemates for a while before bed which was super nice!

Friday
  • I had a lecture first thing in the morning in a building I have never been in before so I left super early to find the building! The lecture was delayed due to some technical issues so I just went on my laptop and set up a blog for a society I am co-founding for next academic year!
  • After the lecture, I tried to finish my blog post due up today but I felt very unproductive and rather down so I switched everything off and went home.
  • I ended up giving my room a proper clean and I spent an entire hour vacuuming the house from top to bottom! I felt a bit better after cleaning my room!
  • I ordered Indian food and ate it all in bed whilst watching Girl Boss. I felt guilty and then did some mindfulness. At some point during the practice, I fell asleep, even though it was super early!
  • I made my lovely friend lonely by falling asleep! I woke up at 1, brushed my teeth and washed my face and went straight back to sleep.

Saturday
  • I worked overtime, again. I doubled my shift because I need the money. Before work, I managed to go to Holland and Barrett and do some snack shopping which was so good! I have an addiction to Vego bars so I stocked the f**k up!
  • In my break, I went to Superdrug and bought insoles, shampoo, conditioner, a hair mask, heat protector and hair dye, which I plan to use on Monday after uni!
  • After work, I had the most amazing waffle from Gino's Gelato on Market Street and then went to Printworks cinema to buy tickets for the 11:20pm showing on The Last Jedi! I have seen it but my lovely friend hasn't so she met me at the cinema and we watched it together!
  • I got home at around 3:30am and went straight to bed because I had to be up for work at 7.

Sunday
  • Early start for work! I just about managed to get up at 7am and get out of the house despite my lack of sleep!
  • Only worked for a few hours so I managed to have time after work to go to Krispy Kreme with my friend and to do a bit of shopping before I went home!
  • I had a lil garlic pizza bread from Dominos for dinner and immediately regretted my unhealthy choices! I ate so much today!
  • Will got back from his weekend trip in the evening and surprised me with flowers which was lovely! We had a catch-up and watched a film before falling asleep early!

Monday

  • Exam!! This afternoon I have my cognition exam and I am absolutely terrified! Despite the amount of work I have done, I feel so unprepared! Spending the morning revising in university before heading over to the exam building
  • The exam went fairly well! Going into to town with Chloe for some food (not sure what food yet) and a little bit of shopping! Just picking up a couple of storage baskets for my chest of drawers and bedside table organisation.
  • We went into Fred Aldous to look at stationery and I am so proud of myself for not blowing all my money on notebooks, no matter how tempting they were!

  • Chloe and I went to The Bagel Shop in Manchester and had the most amazing sundaes! I had a hot cherry pie sundae and she had a mud pie sundae! I am obsessed, the food there is so good and even though I am super full, I really want more! We then popped into Thunder Egg, the Arndale and, of course, Primark! What i'm most excited for though, I bought some books from Waterstones!! I managed to get all the storage baskets I need for organising my drawers later and now i'm about to walk ALL the way home from town. My feet are going to hurt so much!

  • Organised my underwear drawers and my desk and now i'm doing some statistics revision. What a rollercoaster of a day! After revision, I am going to have an early night!!

Tuesday
  • Having a full day at the uni cafe revising for my statistics exam tomorrow, which I am super terrified for. I must admit, I struggle so badly with stats. I just can't get my head around it no matter how hard I try! I do not have a good feeling about this exam and I am a bit of a wreck mentally because of it. Scared my mental health is going to plummet in the next couple of days!
  • I had a stressful and productive day in the cafe and i'm trying to stay productive this evening. I am going to need a miracle to get through this exam! I was studying in my lovely friend's room and I cried over a meme. A MEME!

Wednesday

  • It's here! The day in the exam period which I have dreaded the most! This morning, I have had a panic attack in the uni loos and a lil cry in the cafe but I've decided to accept that it's too late to change anything now and that I should just go in and do my best. The worst thing that could happen would be if I had to resit in the summer!
  • A positive for the day - Chloe ordered a candle for me (I PayPal-ed her the money for it) and it has finally arrived! It smells so good and I love it so much!

  • Not going to talk about how that exam went, purely because I have no idea how it went, it's really hard to tell! I am off to Superdrug and then heading home to study for the next exam.
  • I am having a bit of a pamper evening, which is so overdue! Moisturising my arms and legs, going through my full skincare routine, doing a face mask and having an early night!

Thursday
  • Having an actual day at home! Purely because I want to be at home during daylight so that I can get some blog pics done!
  • Got some blog pics and Instagram pics! Very happy with how they turned out and i'm excited to share them!
  • Revision went swimmingly! I managed to Quizlet all the lectures and i'm just taking some time to go through them all on there now! I use the site to put together the flashcards and then the app to quiz myself because I can just carry it around with me and continue to study wherever I am. For next semester I am considering putting together my sets on Quizlet as we progress through the lectures so that I have them all ready for next exam season.
  • Having a nice read and an early night, hoping to wake up refreshed and ready for the exam!

Friday
  • FINAL DAY OF THE EXAM PERIOD! Not only does that mean freedom, it also means that I get to see Will! I'm so excited just to hang out and watch Drag Race with him!
  • The exam went super well and i'm just heading into town with Chloe for lunch (we're always getting lunch)! Then, she's got a train to catch and i'm going to pop into some shops!
  • Oh my goodness! We went to Northern Soul Grilled Cheese and had the most amazing food! Chloe got a mac and cheese which looked incredible and I got the best grilled cheese sandwich I have ever eaten!

  • Chloe went to catch her train and I headed to WHSmith for the latest issue of Womankind Magazine, which I am super excited to get stuck into! I also popped into work and asked my manager to look at my request for time off, which she has now approved so that I have a day off tomorrow!
  • Got home and had a lovely bath and read for a while. Then I tidied my room and I am now waiting for Will to come over to watch drag race and order food with me!
  • We ordered so much pizza and i'm so content! I love the dough balls from this takeaway, they are my favourite food at the moment! We're watching season 6 of RuPaul's Drag Race (i've already seen it but he's getting into it)! What a lovely way to end a long day!

Saturday
  • A DAY OFF! I am so happy to have a day off and to spend it with my lovely friend in town having a girly day! One last 'treat yo self' day before I get strict with my budgeting now that exams are over!
  • Had the most wonderful day! Spent a bit too much but it's fine! It's been a tough week! We're heading home to cook dinner and watch a movie now which should be good! It feels so good to not have to study!
  • This evening was super chilled! We watched some comedy and then some drag queen videos and now we're both getting an early night! I have to be up for work in the morning, unfortunately! Doing a 9-6 shift on the shop floor which is going to be so tiring!

Sunday
  • Up extra early so that I can grab a coffee before work, I am going to need all the caffeine that I can get! I've packed my lunch and i'm just ready to get this day out of the way!
  • Lunchtime! Work is hectic in the department since we're doing a big move but other than that it's okay. Just getting on with it and hoping that the second half of the shift flies by as fast as the first!
  • Out of work and Will has greeted me at the staff door! We were going to go out for food but i'm completely exhausted so we're grabbing snacks and having another movie night, which should be wonderful!
  • Had a lovely chilled evening and now i'm just getting ready to have an early night, ready for the start of semester 2 tomorrow morning!

Thank you for reading! I hope you had a lovely week! xo

Tuesday, 23 January 2018

Monday
  • First exam this morning! I'm heading over early so I have plenty of time to spare before the exam to read over some last minute notes!
  • The exam went pretty well! Heading over to the veggie cafe near campus for some stew for lunch before I head home to revise for tomorrow
  • Got home and started revising for tomorrow! Ordering bagels from Bagel Factory because I am CRAVING some good bagels!

Tuesday
  • My exam today is in the afternoon which means I have all day to get more and more anxious about it! I am fairly confident with the material but there are only two essay questions I am totally prepared for! Hopefully one of them comes up!
  • So BOTH of the essay questions I wanted to come up on the exam came up! The exam went as well as it possibly could have gone!
  • Super tired so i'm taking a break this evening to watch Kill Bill with Will because he's never seen it!

Wednesday
  • In the psychology building cafe early this morning to revise for next week. Also planning to write a bit and make some blog plans for later this year!
  • A new post went up this morning! It's a Bookish post with some book recommendations just so I can share my faves!

Thursday
  • Another day in the psych building! A load of my coursemates have an exam today so i'm aiming to offer some moral support and also to see my favourite lecturer for a chat and to finally pick up my ASOS parcel which should arrive at my pick-up point today! Exciting times!
  • Got quite a bit of studying done and I picked up my parcel which is super exciting! I cannot wait to try everything on!
  • Everything fits and the outfit I bought is super cute! So chuffed! I bought THIS* polka dot top from Monki, THIS* skirt from ASOS, THIS* pair of sunglasses from ASOS and THIS* The Ordinary skincare product (which I have been waiting to try for so long)!
  • After studying all day, Chloe and I went to Whitworth Art Gallery and had a lovely wander, which was such a lovely wind-down after a stressful few days!
  • Chloe and I went to Cafe Nero and then I met another friend who came back to mine to watch this week's Riverdale episode as per our weekly tradition!

Friday
  • I used The Ordinary 100% Plant-Derived Squalane last night after cleansing my face and woke up with such smooth skin! I know it's only been one use but I can see this becoming a fave!
  • A couple of my friends are visiting Manchester from out of town today and i'm super excited to go and see them for a while! It's been about a year and a half since I last saw them so it'll be so lovely to have a good catch up!
  • Had an iced coffee, picked up some goodies from Holland & Barrett and then rushed home after seeing my friends to revise for Monday's exam
  • Got some revision done and sorted my bag for work tomorrow
  • I started reading Inferior by Angela Saini and it's so interesting!

Saturday
  • A bit of an emotional wreck this morning, just cried in the kitchen over nothing for longer than I care to admit!
  • Revised quite a bit before work and managed to eat a good filling breakfast!!
  • Work was so slow and I spent most of it just stressing about how I should be revising
  • Will came over after I got back from work and we had a lil catch up since we have barely seen each other this week and then he left to let me get on with revision
  • Did a bit of revision before bed but I was pretty much falling asleep so I decided to call it a day a bit earlier than usual

Sunday
  • Up early for work this morning, and then rushing home after work to study for tomorrow's exam!
  • Revision is going fairly well and i'm getting quite a bit done! Feeling a bit more ready for tomorrow now!
  • Cooked up some veggie burritos for dinner which were super yummy!

Just one more week of exams and then my PYT posts will be back to their usual format! Thank you for being patient and understanding whilst I've been doing my exams! I have received so many well-wishes and so much support!

Monday, 15 January 2018

Hello!

My exams are about to start (when this gets published it will be the day of my first exam). Because of my busy study schedule and lack of time to keep updating a PYT post as usual, I will be posting about the highlights of my weeks for the next few weeks instead of a full diary post! I still wanted to get the usual scheduled PYT posts up so this is what I have come up with! I know these posts are some of the most enjoyed posts on my blog!

Monday
  • Fairly unfocused today! Would rather write than study so I figured I would spend some time scheduling posts for the next few weeks so I will have more time to revise when exams are closer
  • One week until my first exam!
  • Took some beautiful blog pics for tomorrow's extra post! Very excited to publish them!
  • Boyfriend is coming over to watch Friends and eat takeaway with me because i've been very stressed about exams

Tuesday
  • Study day at the psych building cafe! Will walked with me to uni because we started at the same time for a change (I went in early just so I didn't have to walk alone)!
  • Got lots of work done and had a laugh with some friends
  • Extra post went up on the blog! The Body Shop perfume oil review! Super proud of the improvement in my blog photography lately! The pics look great!
  • Date night! We had dinner at Slug + Lettuce in Albert Square, drinks at Printworks, and then saw The Greatest Showman (which was absolutely amazing)!!

Wednesday
  • Study day in the psychology building cafe with a couple of friends again!
  • I have been listening to the Greatest Showman soundtrack all day! It is incredible and is all I want to listen to for the next year!
  • Spent the evening doing a bit of studying in my friend's room! We had such a laugh, she's so hilarious and lovely!

Thursday
  • Had to take a sick day because I am feeling like utter garbage! While this may suck, it gives me an excuse to stay at home all day and take care of myself!
  • Rose-ified my skincare for the day by using the Garnier Skin Active + Rose Water cleansing milk, toner and moisturiser, along with my new Mario Badescu rosewater facial spray! I also took some blog pics with the lovely products for my self-care 101 post on Sunday!
  • My angel (good friend) came home (to our uni house) from Norway after being home for ages and it was super lovely to see her after so long!!
  • Got some studying done despite being really ill!
  • My friend came upstairs and we studied together for a while before bed.

Friday
  • Left the house at 9, a fairly decent time
  • Had a wonderful coffee at Cafe Nero with a friend before heading over to Anchor Coffee House for a bagel breakfast!
  • Another bagel for lunch and a productive time at the cafe, studying for my evolutionary psychology exam
  • Bought a new Do book from Anchor Coffee House (again), read a couple of chapters and already captivated!
  • Chloe joined the study session which was wonderful! She is always a treat to hang out with!

Saturday
  • Got up, took my meds and supplements and got straight down to work!
  • Had a lovely long shower
  • Understood an important court case in my history of forensic science module and was able to outline the whole thing on the phone with my mum without looking at my notes!
  • Printed some notes and studied on the bus to work, and in the work cafeteria before my shift!
  • Studied for a while when I got home from work, and then worked on another mental health post before bed!

Sunday
  • Another Self Care 101 post went up today and I am super proud of it! It's all about self care in the exam season and you can go read it HERE if you think you would benefit from it!
  • Work was quiet so I got to relax a little bit
  • Terrified for tomorrow's exam but powering through with revision
  • Picked up some black heeled boots from Primark sales for £3 which is insane!!
  • My friend ordered a garlic bread from Dominos for me
  • Studied into the night, hoping that tomorrow goes well!

Thank you for reading! What do you think of this temporary format for the Pull Yourself Together posts? Should it become a permanent change or should I definitely switch back to the usual format after exams? xo
